The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign is remodeling and adding to one of its facilities. This particular building houses their hydro systems where students are able to conduct experiments on water. The 4-story addition is comprised of classrooms with a walkway on the third floor that connects to another engineering building. While running caisson tubing for the building’s foundation, Mid Illinois Mechanical was tasked with configuring the number and layout of tubes differently in each. Each cassion’s supply line is then run to a pipe manifold with valve shutoffs where students can control the airflow and conduct experiments related to heat. Other additions to the building include new plumbing, AC, temperature control, compressed air, heated and chilled water, and steam service as well as fin tube radiators installed in the third-floor walkway.
